Established in 1989 by John and Marilyn Knueven, J&M Farms is a producer of corn, soybeans, wheat, alfalfa, and rye. They sell grain crops on the commercial market and haul alfalfa and straw to farmers, dairies, and horse owners mostly in North and South Carolina, West Virginia, Virginia, and Georgia.

In addition to hauling hay and straw, John also hauls for iCorn, Routemaster, and through McBee Trucking for E&E Truck Brokers (Sauders Furniture and Andersons Lawn and Garden Fertilizer), I-75Truck Brokers (scrap rubber), Conrad Farfard, inc (potting soils), and Better Management Cooperation (paper).

Marilyn, John’s wife of 31 years, takes care of the financial records for J&M Farms while also working for Marathon Ashland Petroleum in Findlay, Ohio. She has an Associates Degree, and Bachelors of Science in Business Administration and Accounting from Findlay College (Now the University of Findlay). She obtained her CBA in 1995.

John and Marilyn have two sons, Curtis and Neal. Curtis is currently working for the USDA NRCS in Lebanon, IN. He graduated from the Ohio State University in May of 1999 with a B.S. in Agriculture. In August of 2002, Curtis received his Masters in Science (M.S.), also from the Ohio State University.

Neal is finishing up his final semester at Bowling Green State University where he is majoring in Visual Communication Technology with a minor in Marketing. He will graduate December 21, 2002 with a B.S. in Technology.

The beginnings of J&M Farms can be traced back to December 10, 1938 when John’s grandparents Edward and Philomena Knueven purchased 120 acres of farmland in Putnam County, Ohio. Today, J&M Farms owns 265 acres of farmland, a 5-acre homestead, a 5-acre woods, and rents an additional 130 acres of farmland in Northwest Ohio.

Over the past 60 years, the Knueven family has also raised livestock, grown tomatoes, pickles, and sugar beats in addition to the crops that they still grown today.

John is a member of the National Hay Association, Farm Bureau, and American Soybean Association.
