Established in 1989 by John and Marilyn Knueven, J&M Farms
is a producer of corn, soybeans, wheat, alfalfa, and rye. They sell
grain crops on the commercial market and haul alfalfa and straw
to farmers, dairies, and horse owners mostly in North and South
Carolina, West Virginia, Virginia, and Georgia.
In addition to hauling hay and straw, John also hauls for iCorn,
Routemaster, and through McBee Trucking for E&E Truck Brokers
(Sauders Furniture and Andersons Lawn and Garden Fertilizer), I-75Truck
Brokers (scrap rubber), Conrad Farfard, inc (potting soils), and
Better Management Cooperation (paper).
Marilyn, Johns wife of 31 years, takes care of the financial
records for J&M Farms while also working for Marathon
Ashland Petroleum in Findlay, Ohio. She has an Associates Degree,
and Bachelors of Science in Business Administration and Accounting
from Findlay College (Now the University
of Findlay). She obtained her CBA in 1995.
John and Marilyn have two sons, Curtis and Neal. Curtis
is currently working for the USDA
NRCS in Lebanon, IN.
He graduated from the
Ohio State University in May of 1999 with a B.S. in Agriculture.
In August of 2002, Curtis received his Masters in Science (M.S.),
also from the Ohio
State University.
Neal is finishing up his final semester at Bowling
Green State
University where he is majoring in Visual Communication Technology
with a minor in Marketing. He will graduate December 21, 2002 with
a B.S. in Technology.
The beginnings of J&M Farms can be traced back to December
10, 1938 when Johns grandparents Edward and Philomena Knueven
purchased 120 acres of farmland in Putnam County, Ohio. Today, J&M
Farms owns 265 acres of farmland, a 5-acre homestead, a 5-acre woods,
and rents an additional 130 acres of farmland in Northwest Ohio.
Over the past 60 years, the Knueven family has also raised livestock,
grown tomatoes, pickles, and sugar beats in addition to the crops
that they still grown today.
John is a member of the National
Hay Association, Farm
Bureau, and American
Soybean Association.
